RABBI AMY HERTZ

Rabbi Educator

Rabbi Amy Hertz, or Rabbi Amy as she is often called, grew up in Houston, Texas. She attended Jewish day schools, was an active member of her Reform Jewish youth group, and spent many summers as a camper, counselor, and educator at Greene Family Camp, the Reform Movement summer camp in Bruceville, Texas. She received her B.A. in Mathematics and Economics from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Hebrew Letters and Rabbinic Ordination from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) in Jerusalem and Cincinnati in 2008. She also received her Master's Degree in Jewish Education from HUC-JIR in 2020.

Prior to coming to Temple Emanuel, Rabbi Hertz served Temple Isaiah in Lexington, Massachusetts, with creativity and joyful leadership for more than a decade. Before that, she served as the Associate Rabbi at Rodef Shalom Congregation in Pittsburgh, PA, where she held distinction as a compassionate pastor, excellent teacher, and effective leader.

Rabbi Hertz is thrilled to be a part of the Temple Emanuel community and join the vibrant and robust Jewish community of greater Greensboro. Known for her warmth and deep relational nature, Rabbi Hertz is passionate about supporting people on their Jewish journeys. She and her wife, Beth Goldstein, a talented Jewish educator and song leader, look forward to getting to know the people of Temple Emanuel and the larger community.
