About the event
Join us for our Yom Kippur Study Sessions on Monday, September 25 at 2:00 p.m.
We have three in-person Study Sessions planned and one virtual option!
Option 1: Israel – What is really happening there?
Rabbi Fred Guttman
This will be an opportunity to hear from those who live in Israel as they will share their impressions and dialogue with those in attendance. All thoughts and concerns are welcome. The three discussion leaders will be Tom Sawicki, the former Director of Programming at AIPAC in Jerusalem, Susan Sawicki, the former Director of International Engagement at the New Israel Fund in Jerusalem, and our emeritus rabbi, Rabbi Fred Guttman who lived much of last year in Jerusalem.
Option 2: In Our Town Square
Victoria Carlin Milstein
This presentation will explore how erecting a Holocaust memorial to women and children expressed a community’s response to antisemitism, racism and the history of genocide. The artist will talk about the recently installed Holocaust monument, “She Wouldn’t take off her Boots,” and how socially engaged art practice through collaboration between public and private partnerships can create sacred spaces to educate and allow for reflections and the renewal of our values.
Option 3: Teshuvah Meditation
Nichol Walters
Teshuvah helps us transform darkness into light. Teshuvah can be translated to “return.” It comes from the Hebrew root “to return,” and it’s similar to the word “healing” — to return to a state of personal alignment, or we can use this as a reminder to return to the breath, the present moment, the only place where life exists. This meditation is to help guide the path towards your return to self, bringing awareness to actions, preparing for forgiveness, and offering methods that help us let it all
Option 4: Connections (Hold the Coffee!) Zoom Program
For those who are looking for a virtual option, Connections (Hold the Coffee!) will be held on Zoom at the same time, and will include a brief prayer of healing at the end of the program (~2:45 p.m.).
Topic: Connections - Hold the Coffee!
Time: Sep 25, 2023 02:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada)
