About the event

Selichot are Jewish penitential poems and prayers - especially those said in the period leading up to the High Holy Days.

Selichot is also the name for a spiritual gathering that takes place in congregations worldwide on the Saturday evening prior to Rosh Hashanah.

This Saturday, starting at 7:30 p.m., we will watch the film, "The Five People You Meet in Heaven" - a movie with the theme of forgiveness and repentance. Please note that we have moved the starting time to 7:30 p.m. so we can watch the entire movie instead of just an excerpt.  After the movie, we will have a brief discussion over dessert.

At approximately 10:00 p.m., we will gather in the foyer for our Selichot Service, which is filled with brief prayers and moving High Holiday melodies. During the service, we will change Temple's Torah covers from the colorful ones used during most of the year to the white ones that are used only on the High Holidays. Singing Avinu Malkeinu, we will conclude our service by accompanying the Torahs to their spaces in the sanctuary.
