On May 14, 1948, Israel declared independence returning Jewish people to sovereignty in the historic land of Israel for the first time in nearly 2000 years. This 5-week course will examine the document that was read that day by David Ben Gurion. Nearly 77 years after that moment, we will look at Israel's ideals and examine the passages that have been central to many of the conversations taking place in Israel and beyond in contemporary times.
