About the event
"Everything in the small town of Terezin was false, invented...it's inhabitants condemned to die...But the children who were brought here knew nothing...They saw reality, but they still maintained their childish outlook...They lived locked within walls and courtyards. This was their world...of color and shadow, of hunger and hope...They saw everything that grownups saw...the funeral carts...the infirmaries and funerals which were only gathering up of coffins...But the children saw too...the beauties beyond the village gates, the green meadows and the bluish hills...the animals, the birds, the butterflies...all this they drew and painted...But when they wrote poems fear came to them and they could tell of it un their poems, know that they were condemned...they knew it better than the adults."*
