Getting Involved: Sisterhood

Sisterhood News

Our own Denny Norris is inducted as WRJ District President in Washington DC.
NEWS YOU CAN USE FROM THE SISTERHOOD
Everything I need to know about life, I learned from Noah's Ark.
Don't miss the boat.
We are all in the same boat.
Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.
Stay fit. When you are 600 years old, someone may ask you to do something.
Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.
Build your future on high ground.
For safety's sake, travel in pairs.
Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.
When you are stressed, float awhile.
Remember, amateurs built the Ark; professionals built the Titanic.
No matter the storm, there's always a rainbow waiting.

"The lessons from Noah's Ark can be applied to the realities and challenges of leadership today," stated Blair Marks, WRJ Southeast President. Marks was just one of several presenters at the Women for Reform Judaism Mid-Atlantic District 62nd Biennial Convention in Washington DC in late April. She challenged Sisterhood leaders to ask "open ended" questions and then wait for a response. "Leaders should try to get everyone to participate, but also keep control. Giving recognition is an absolute must for today's Sisterhoods." According to Marks, Sisterhood should be a haven for Jewish women. On Friday evening, Jessie Podair, VP of Social Programming and I, along with other WRJ participants, attended Washington Hebrew Congregation's "Shabbat of Songs" service. This service combined sacred liturgy with modern melodies. It was delightful to join with the cantors in all the singing whether the songs were in Hebrew or English. On Saturday, we learned about "Women of the Wall," (http://womenofthewall.org.il/), and Rabbi Michael Farbman shared with us the development of Shai'arei Shalom in St. Petersburg, Russia. Our evening ended with Denny Norris' election as WRJ Mid-Atlantic District President. Temple Emanuel hosted Norris' reception and we, along with her family and friends, celebrated her new responsibilities. It is amazing to witness the leadership that comes from Temple Emanuel women, and I was honored to represent TE Sisterhood, Greensboro, NC in our nation's capital.
