Friendship Circle
What a pleasant surprise and honor it was when Brenda and Laura asked me to consider becoming the director of Temple Emanuel’s Friendship Circle. Just as Rabbi Arnold Task planted the seed for a group to serve the “seasoned” members of the Temple, with generous support from the Sternberger Foundation, I will try to emulate the way the first director, Sylvia Ricketts, and others that followed, nourished it with utmost care and grew it into the tree of life that it has become.
Friendship Circle members want to thank Ann Gottman for her able leadership during the last ?? years.
As a longtime member of Temple, I have served as a teacher and Interim Director of the Religious School, and the first director of the Preschool. For many years my mother, Virginia Newman Popper, was a member of the Friendship Circle, and my husband, Barry and I helped with special activities.
The Friendship Circle is a social group for seniors, fifty-five years of age and older. It is open to the community. A grant from the BJH Foundation for Senior Services partially supports the programs. The group meets at the Temple at noon on the first and third Thursday of the month. Lunch is provided and a program of interest is presented.
It will be my pleasure to speak with each of you individually at the meetings, and, hopefully, at Friday evening services. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me by calling the Temple office.
B’Shalom, Leah Popper Strulson
